Are you thinking of painting your wooden garden furniture? Paint can actually be an excellent protectant of wooden garden furniture. Both stains and water-repellant preservatives are adequate, stains have been known to wear off of wooden garden furniture. • Smooth – remove loose paint and debris by scraping are brushing with a metal wire brush. Go against the grain of the wood. Be safe, and wear proper protection. Sand down the rest of the surface with a medium grit paper or a fine grit paper.
• Paint – if you choose to use a latex paint rather than an enamel paint, be sure to use 100% acrylic latex paint.
• First coat – thin the paint down a bit – this will increase its penetration into the wood.
• Lightly sand – before painting on the topcoat, lightly sand your wooden garden furniture (doing so can create adhesion of the topcoat).
• Pre-assembly paint – whenever possible, be sure to paint the end grain before you assemble the furniture parts.
• Repeat the process every two years!

Although it may seem like a lot of work, properly caring for your wooden garden furniture is well worth it. It can last and last when cared for properly, and you will not have to worry about buying new wooden garden furniture any time soon.
